Chelsea’s teenage midfielder Lexi Potter has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.
The Eagles announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.
The 17-year-old England youth international arrives in South London after signing a three-year professional deal with her parent club. She has become the first 17-year-old female footballer in the country to sign professional terms. Potter has captained the England Under-17 side and she is one of the most highly-rated young players in the country.
Potter is yet to make her senior debut for Chelsea but she has represented the club at WSL Academy League level. The player will now have the benefit of playing senior football for the first time in the Barclays Women’s Championship with Crystal Palace.
After adding Potter to the Crystal Palace squad, head coach Laura Kaminski said “It’s fantastic to welcome Lexi, a highly promising player who captains her country in her age group, to Palace. We’re excited to work with her to further her – and the club’s – progression together.”
Potter could be involved for Crystal Palace for the first time when they travel to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City this afternoon.
