Bristol City defender Vicky Bruce has joined Liberty A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers ahead of the new season.

The Australian club announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Bruce moves ‘Down Under’ after spending one season with Bristol City. The player made 21 appearances for The Robins, helping the club to win last season’s Barclays Women’s Championship title. The defender was a key member of the Bristol City side but she has opted for a new challenge this season.

After completing her move to Western Sydney Wanderers, Bruce said “I’ve heard nothing but good things about the A-Leagues. A lot of my friends, competitors or former teammates have played in Australia and they have raved about it.

“The league is known for having a high standard and its professionalism, so I’m really excited to be part of that culture. I know the Wanderers are incredibly competitive and put up a good fight every game.

“This season, I’m hoping to become not just a better player, but a better person and teammate.

“It would be amazing to make Player of the Week or get accolades for my achievements, but there is so much more to it than that. I want to make a difference on and off the pitch for the Wanderers.

“Having played professionally abroad for over seven years, I have a lot of useful advice and wisdom that I can share. I want to support my teammates in any way that I can and I hope I can help lead the team to a title!”

Bruce is the eighth player to leave Bristol City since the end of last season.
