Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated young Dutch midfielder Wieke Kaptein from FC Twente.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

It has been reported that the 18-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the South West Londoners but she will be immediately loaned back to FC Twente to further her development.

Wieke has been in and around the FC Twente senior squad for the last two seasons. She has made 40 appearances for the club in the Azerion Eredivisie Vrouwen while she has scored three goals. The player has also experienced playing in the early rounds of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

On the international stage, Kaptein made her senior debut for the Dutch national team in April. She also went to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 with The Orange Lionesses.

After joining The Blues, Kaptein said “It’s a really big club and I’m very honoured to be here. I’m looking forward to playing football for Chelsea. I can’t wait to meet the players and fans, but I am happy I can develop myself one more year in the Eredivisie.”

Kaptein becomes Chelsea manager Emma Hayes’ ninth signing of the summer transfer window.
