Brighton & Hove Albion’s teenage forward Chelsea Ferguson has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Ferguson has come through the youth ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and she made her first senior appearances for the club last season. The 18-year-old signed her first professional terms with the club earlier this summer.

Given Brighton & Hove Albion’s strong recruitment drive this summer, Ferguson cannot be guaranteed regular minutes this season and she will continue her development in the second tier with Blackburn Rovers.

Commenting on the decision to allow Ferguson to go out on loan, Brighton & Hove Albion’s head coach Melissa Phillips said “This is a great opportunity for Chelsea to stretch herself in an environment where she can compete for match minutes in a league as competitive as the Championship.

“It is important at this stage of her development that she has the platform to grow within matches and Blackburn provides an excellent setting for her to continue progressing. We wish her well and we’ll be monitoring her progress during the season.”

Ferguson could make her Blackburn Rovers debut against Sheffield United at Ewood Park on Sunday.
