Birmingham City sign South Korean international forward Yu

Birmingham City have completed the signing of South Korean international forward Choe Yu-ri from Hyundai Steel Red Angels.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this morning.

It has been reported that Yu has signed a two-year deal with Birmingham City with the option of a further year.

Yu arrives at St Andrew’s off the back of representing South Korea at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. The player featured in all three of her nation’s matches in the group stage. Yu has a wealth of experience on the international stage. She has 54 senior international caps while she has scored nine goals.

At club level, the forward has spent her entire career to date playing in her native South Korea. She started out with Sejong Sportstoto before joining latest club Hyundai Steel Red Angels in 2021.

Yu will now set out on a brand new adventure in the Barclays Women’s Championship with Birmingham City. The player will be available for selection for the Blues upon the completion of the Asian Games.

Birmingham City head coach Darren Carter had an exceptionally busy Transfer Deadline Day. The Blues broke their transfer record to land Manchester United attacker Ivana Fuso before adding veteran midfielder Cho So-hyun. Yu caps-off a trio of deals for the ambitious Barclays Women’s Championship club.
