Blackburn Rovers head coach Simon Parker says that his side’s early season consistency is down to having the right culture and environment at the club.

Rovers have taken six points from their first three games in this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship. They travel to Watford this afternoon looking to build on their solid start.

While Rovers were tipped to struggle by many this season, the Lancashire club are making a mockery of those predictions with consistent early season performances. Head coach Parker says that the culture and environment at the club is helping his side to perform.

“A lot of people might have said that Blackburn would be one of those teams that could be near the bottom,” Parker said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time. “The first target is to get enough points to ensure that we remain in the league. If we do that sooner, we can start looking up the table.

“The resilience that we have and the consistency I think is down to having a great culture and a good environment here. All of the players are buying into it together and we know what we want to do. We want to find that consistency in our messages as coaches so that when we turn up at training, everyone knows what we are about, what we want to do and how we want to play. Hopefully, that consistency will show.”

Rovers’ latest opponents Watford are another side that have impressed in the opening weeks of the season. The Golden Girls have taken four points from their first three games. Watford were only promoted back to the second tier at the end of May. Parker has praise for how the Hertfordshire club have gone about their business.

He said “They got a great result at Charlton and even those games before, I’ve been looking at the way that they play. They made over 1,200 passes in those two games, so they are a team that likes to play.

“They’ve recruited really well. They’ve got those experienced players from London City and some young exciting players from Arsenal. They also have a consistency in what they bring. They are a team that are maybe surprising a few people but they are doing everything right.

“It’s a game that I’m really looking forward to, especially after getting those six points.”

Blackburn Rovers’ Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at Watford kicks-off at 2pm.
