Durham forward Amy Andrews says that the team have regained their confidence and are back on track following their 1-0 win over London City Lionesses.

The Wildcats were thumped 9-1 by Crystal Palace eight days’ ago but they bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over London City Lionesses at Maiden Castle yesterday.

Forward Andrews was the hero for Durham. She netted the winning goal in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time to spark wild celebrations both on the pitch and in the crowd.

Andrews scored in her previous appearance at Maiden Castle, however, she had to claim the goal following a video review after the game. There was no doubting the fact that she scored against London City Lionesses though and the forward admitted that she was delighted to get the chance to celebrate her match-winning moment.

“It’s a lot nicer not having to debate whether it’s my goal or not, I can actually celebrate clearly,” Andrews joked when speaking to WSL Full-Time after the match.

“To get it in the last minute, especially with the week that we’ve had, I blacked out, I can’t even explain how amazing it was.”

Durham have struggled for attacking options in previous years but they have four quality forwards on their books this season. Andrews said that the team are working hard in the final third and she sees the number of chances created as a real positive.

She said “We are just working on how to exploit those areas. We’ve got new attacking options now and the team have had to adjust to different players but they are getting there, they know my strengths.

“I had multiple chances and could have scored more than one but what’s important is that we’ve made those chances.”

Durham had seven days to reflect on the 9-1 defeat to Crystal Palace but after defeating London City Lionesses, the team’s confidence has quickly come flooding back.

“Confidence is high, we are feeling like we are back on track,” Andrews said. “The bounce back from the last game is unreal, so we just have to keep going.”

Durham return to action following the international break with a home fixture against Reading.
