Isobel Goodwin scored the winning goal as Sheffield United claimed their first win of the season in a tight contest against Lewes at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

The forward netted the game’s only goal as The Blades chalked up a narrow 1-0 victory. Her 73rd-minute goal was her second in as many games, having also netted against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.

Speaking to WSL Full-Time after the match, the 20-year old forward said that she is pleased with her good goalscoring form.

“I’m definitely really happy,” the forward said. “We’ve obviously had a tough few weeks but my job is to score goals and help the team win games, so I’m really happy.”

Goodwin went on to say that getting a first win of the season on home soil for the fans was a lovely moment.

“It’s brilliant hearing the fans, it’s amazing having everyone around you,” she said. “It spurs us on more just hearing them behind our backs.

“It’s definitely a massive, massive push for us and to get the goal and hear them cheer, it’s even better.”

Goodwin joined Sheffield United over the summer. Since joining The Blades, the player has struck up a good connection with Sophie Haywood and the pair enjoyed creating many chances against Lewes on Sunday.

“I think we work really well together,” Goodwin said when commenting on the partnership. “Obviously, we’ve played with each other at Aston Villa.  Having that connection on and off the pitch helps a lot, I think there are more goals still to come.”

Sheffield United travel to Crystal Palace for their next match after the international break. Goodwin says that the team will be looking to repeat their winning result.

She said “I’m very happy with how we’re playing and we deserve wins. The last few weeks have been tough, there have been times where we should have won the game. We just need to finish the game off and get the three points.”

Sheffield United’s upcoming fixture at Crystal Palace takes place on Saturday 30 September 2023.
