Liverpool manager Matt Beard expressed his frustration following his side’s 1-0 Merseyside derby defeat to Everton at Anfield on Sunday.

Beard’s frustrations were largely directed towards the match officials. Attacker Missy Bo Kearns thought that she had scored early on for The Reds but her celebrations were met by an offside flag. Replays show that Kearns looked to be onside, much to the frustration of her manager.

Commenting on the incident after the match, Liverpool boss Beard said “I don’t think we deserved to lose the game today. I think the officiating has had an impact on the result. I’ve watched the goal back, the player that is pressing Taylor (Hinds) has kept Bo (Kearns) onside.

Beard confirmed that he spoke with the officials after the game to express his dissatisfaction with the decision.

“I’ve just been in to see the officials,” he said. “They’ll review it, that’s it. It’s had an impact on the result, we should be 1-0 up but they don’t see it or they make the wrong choice.

“You’ve got foul throws being taken in front of us live on Sky Sports, you’ve got the fourth official telling the referee it’s a foul throw and it’s not being acted upon. I just think it’s embarrassing really.”

Beard went on to say that his side looked dangerous on the attack, although there are areas for improvement.

He said “We were dangerous and we had a lot of pace upfront. I think we were much better in the first half but we dropped off, didn’t release the wing-backs quick enough and it allowed them to play.

“They didn’t really open us up today. I think there was one chance at the end in transition where we hit the bar, when we chase it and become a little more vulnerable.”

Liverpool will look to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to East London to face West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
