Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup has signed a new contract with the Barclays Women’s Super League club.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Startup joined Brighton & Hove Albion in summer 2020 after impressing with former club Charlton Athletic. The player has largely played a role of back-up keeper in recent seasons, although she has never let the team down when called upon. Startup made her Barclays Women’s Super League debut for Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2021/2022 season and she has gone on to make four appearances for the club in all competitions.

After retaining the keeper’s services for an extended period, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “We are excited that Katie has extended her stay with us in Brighton.

“She’s an incredibly hard-working and determined player who adds to the competitive nature amongst the team, both on and off the training pitch.

“We look forward to another season ahead with her in our talented squad of players.”

Startup will continue to battle with Sophie Baggaley and Nicky Evrard for the number one goalkeeping jersey at Brighton & Hove Albion. The player is currently seen as third-choice and it may be a case that the club look to get her some minutes elsewhere later in the season.
