Full-back Leanne Cowan has re-joined Barclays Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Pride this afternoon.

Cowan returns to London City Lionesses following a spell with Crystal Palace. The defender made 15 appearances for The Eagles in the Barclays Women’s Championship before sustaining a long-term injury. In her previous spell with London City Lionesses, Cowan made 17 appearances for the club in the league in which she scored one goal. She TUPE transferred from Millwall Lionesses to London City Lionesses upon the club’s formation in summer 2019.

After securing her London City Lionesses return, Cowan said “The last match that I was involved in was in March 2022 – a lot of work has been put in behind the scenes and the only reason I’m back playing football is because of the people who got me through my rehab.

“It feels like a really long journey has finally come to an end and now, it’s just about trying to catch up with the group in terms of fitness.”

Cowan will be available for selection when London City Lionesses face Blackburn Rovers in the Barclays Women’s Championship at Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon.
