Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips says that she has been pleased with her side’s consistency and growth in recent weeks.

The Seagulls’ last four matches have been against Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. Brighton & Hove Albion have been able to take four points from an available 12 whilst putting in some solid performances across those games.

When speaking to WSL Full-Time in a Brighton & Hove Albion press conference, Phillips said that she is pleased with what she has witnessed in the last four games.

“The goal was to be competitive in and amongst those four games and to be proud of our performances,” the Brighton & Hove Albion boss said.

“We’ve absolutely had some consistency with our performances and there’s been real growth across the four games. We now need to carry that into the next set of games and that’s the most important task, whether that’s on Wednesday or at the weekend.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s next fixture is against West Ham United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. The Hammers were 2-0 winners at Broadfield Stadium in the league early last month. Phillips believes that her side have developed their game since that match.

She said “It was a really competitive match the last time we played them. This will be the third time we’ve met because we also played them in a pre-season fixture.

“Both sides have adapted little bits since we last met. They’re super-resilient and hardworking out of possession and that’s where they made it really difficult for us in terms of making it a really scrappy game, always applying pressure on the ball.

“We learned a lot about ourselves in terms of our own options and spaces that we need to occupy to be able to play out of possession better. That’s something that we have definitely worked on over the last block of games.

“We are looking forward to a competitive fixture under the lights. It is good to see WSL opposition in these games and see how some different players line-up.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening. Tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
