England boss Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea manager Emma Hayes have been named as finalists at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from FIFA this afternoon.
The pair have been named in the top three nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach category with the overall winner of the award to be announced next month.
Wiegman’s latest nomination comes off the back of guiding England to a first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final in the summer. The Lionesses fell short as they were defeated 1-0 by Spain but it was another step forward for the national team. Despite losing the final, Wiegman still ends the year having won two trophies, those being the Arnold Clark Cup and the inaugural Women’s Finalissima. The Dutchwomen is the current holder of The Best FIFA Women’s Coach award.
Hayes has again enjoyed lots of success with Chelsea this year. The Blues retained the Barclays Women’s Super League title and the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. Chelsea remain the dominant force in the English game. The club are well-placed to challenge for four trophies this season.
Wiegman and Hayes will go up against FC Barcelona boss Jonatan Giráldez for the right to become the women’s game’s best coach.
All the winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 will be crowned at a special ceremony on Monday 15 January 2024 in London.
