American businesswoman Michele Kang has acquired Barclays Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an update from London City Lionesses this afternoon.
Kang inherits the Dartford-based club from founder Diane Culligan. The club had been seeking investment to help push them to the next level and they have now seemingly attracted that necessary support.
It is fair to say that Kang is definitely no stranger to football business. She is majority owner of American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit while she has also added former European champions Lyon to her portfolio. Kang is now set for another exciting project with London City Lionesses.
After acquiring The Pride, Kang said “I want to thank Diane [Culligan] for her vision in establishing LCL in 2019 and for entrusting me with the responsibility to take the club to the next level. I see tremendous possibility in this team and look forward to helping the club and the players reach their highest potential.”
