Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that this evening’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion is another ‘must-win’ game for her side.

The Villans face The Seagulls in their final fixture of 2023 at The Poundland Bescot Stadium. Aston Villa have taken just six points from an available 27 in what has been a difficult first half of the season for the Midlands club.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Aston Villa boss Ward said that the game is a ‘must-win’ for her side as they look to end the calendar year on a winning note.

“The message is very loud and clear, we have to go and win the game, it is ‘must win’,” Ward said. “It’s a game that we have to be focused for, be prepared for. It’s an opportunity to jump above them in the league and finish the first half of the season better than we started it.”

Opponents Brighton & Hove Albion have also endured a challenging start to the season. Head coach Melissa Phillips has built an exciting squad but The Seagulls are still striving for some consistency at times.

“They’ve got quality, they’ve shown that,” Ward said. “They’ve had some good performances and some that they’ll be disappointed with, a little bit like ourselves.

“Both teams will want to finish on a high and I think it’s going to be a very interesting game. I have no doubt that both teams will go out there all guns blazing.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 6.45pm this evening. Tickets are available on the gate at The Poundland Bescot Stadium.
