England head coach Sarina Wiegman has signed a new long-term contract which will see her remain in her role until 2027.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this morning.

Wiegman took up her position in September 2021 and she has gone on to guide the Lionesses to a huge period of success. England were crowned European champions for the first time in summer 2022 while they won the inaugural Women’s Finalissima at Wembley nine months later. Wiegman’s Lionesses have also won back-to-back Arnold Clark Cups and they were FIFA Women’s World Cup finalists for the first time last summer.

The Dutchwomen is regarded as the world’s best international coach and she will be hoping to enjoy many more special moments with England in the coming years.

After signing her extended deal, Wiegman said “I am so happy to have the chance to lead England through to 2027 after an incredible two-and-a-half years. Looking forward, we have unfinished business and I know we are capable of even more, although nothing will come easy. Our game is becoming so competitive at the top level. I relish that opportunity and can’t wait to start the EURO qualifiers, followed by the World Cup.

“I would like to thank Mark Bullingham, Debbie Hewitt and the FA Board for their support. I also must mention Arjan Veurink, I am delighted he has also extended his stay. It is a fantastic job working with these amazing players and alongside great colleagues and, of course, it is very special to be able to play a part in giving our fans such wonderful moments.”

The Lionesses return to action next month when they will face two different opponents overseas.
