Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn is keen for his side to continue to show progress against West Ham United this evening.
The Lilywhites could equal last season’s points tally with a victory at The Chigwell Construction Stadium, a sign of the huge progress made under Vilahamn’s leadership.
When speaking to the media ahead of this evening’s fixture, Vilahamn said that matching last season’s points tally is not relevant and that the challenge is to simply keep progressing.
“I won’t compare to last season because the club struggled a lot and the points tally wasn’t good,” Vilahamn said. “On the other hand, it does highlight how much the team have improved.
“It would be nice [to equal last season’s tally] but the important thing is how we take the next step now. The first half of the season was good, we took steps, we lost a few games then came back and we still played our way, trying to be better.
“I want us to go into the West Ham game and take more steps now. We’ve had new players coming in, more time to train together, so the next step is about how we dictate this game. We are pleased with the situation but we want to take more steps forward.”
Spurs’ latest opponents West Ham United are currently second-bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table but Vilahamn believes that The Hammers are better than what their position suggests.
He said “When you look at West Ham in the first part of the season, they had some really good quality and came back in a few games. They haven’t had the best results but look at their signings and their latest performance against Chelsea.
“They are a good team, they’re probably better than their league position suggests, so it is going to be a tough game.”
