Lewes forward Kate Mooney has left the club by mutual consent.

The Rooks announced news of the player’s departure via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Mooney joined Lewes last summer following an impressive spell with SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division club Peamount United. The forward had scored five goals in seven outings for The Peas in their title-winning season.

In the first half of this season, Mooney made 11 appearances for Lewes in which she failed to score. Most of her outings came from the bench. With the player struggling for minutes, it has been confirmed that Mooney’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent and she will now pursue fresh opportunities.

Prior to Mooney’s departure, Lewes head coach Scott Booth had already strengthened his side’s attacking options. The Rooks signed New Zealand international attacker Jacqui Hand while Aimee Claypole has arrived on loan from Chelsea. Full-back Grace Riglar has also been trialed at the other end of the pitch in a striker’s role.

With nine games remaining, Lewes are currently second-bottom of the Barclays Women’s Championship table and three points adrift of safety. Goal difference is tight therefore it is important that Lewes keep finding the back of the net in the next three months.
