FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title hopefuls Newcastle United have signed Lia Cataldo and Paige Bailey-Gayle from Crystal Palace.

The Magpies announced news of the transfers via a post on their official club X account just a short time ago.

Newcastle United look likely to gain promotion to the elite game come the end of the season and the club are continuing to prepare for potential second tier football next term with some really astute signings.

Full-back Cataldo has twice won the Barclays Women’s Championship title during spells with former clubs Leicester City and Bristol City. The 22-year-old defender has more than 100 appearances under her belt in the elite game, playing in some of the best teams in the second tier.

Forward Bailey-Gayle was on Arsenal’s books in her youth. She made the breakthrough at senior level with Leicester City. Like Cataldo, she was a member of the promotion-winning Foxes side in 2020/2021. Bailey-Gayle possesses lots of pace and skill and while she is maybe searching for her top form following a challenging couple of years, she has all of the attributes to be one of the best players at Barclays Women’s Championship level and beyond.

Newcastle United continue their push for promotion in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
