Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side must look to make the best of their difficult fixture at Chelsea this weekend.
The Blue Girls travel to Kingsmeadow to contest their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture on Sunday evening.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Sørensen admitted that his side face a huge challenge to get a result but Everton have got to make the most of the opportunity.
“We’ve got to try and keep the ball and play against them,” Sørensen said. “We succeeded with that last time, we lost 3-0. If you look at their expected goals, it’s probably the lowest they’ve had in the last five, six, seven, eight years. We created good chances but didn’t convert them and [Ann-Katrin] Berger pulled off some great saves. With their big chances, they had the quality to convert them into goals.
“We need to be aware of the fact that we can’t give them half a chance because they have the quality to finish it off. They are flying at the moment despite having injuries to big players. They’ve gone into the transfer market and have just continued on.
“We know it’s going to be a big ask and nobody expects us to do anything. We need to go in shoulders down and make the best game out of it. I think we did that last time and we will try to do it again.”
Sørensen went on to say that Everton will focus on themselves at Kingsmeadow and that they will try to pick their moments to hurt the hosts.
He said “We always try to focus on ourselves. Last weekend was frustrating because we should have got more with the chances that we created. We took a different approach with that game due to how Leicester play, we were hitting them a bit on the counter and it paid off in terms of creating big opportunities.
“Chelsea this weekend, it’ll probably be the same picture; we need to be organised then find the right moments to hurt them. That’s our aim, that’s our focus.”
Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening.
