Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor highlighted the fact that his side are in control of their own title hopes after their 4-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

Lauren Hemp, Mary Fowler, Khadija Shaw and Laura Coombs were all on target for The Cityzens as they eased to victory at Broadfield Stadium.

When speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City head coach Taylor commented on the competition for places in the team, highlighting that solid foundations are now in place.

“It’s important at this stage of the season [to have different goalscorers] and you’ve got Mary Fowler coming into the team, she’s scored her second goal in two games which is good,” Taylor said. “We’re starting to see good things from her and Jess Park has come into the team and contributed really well.

“We have solid foundations, Khiara [Keating], the two centre-backs and [Yui] Hasegawa, I thought she was top today.”

Manchester City are again level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table after yesterday’s victory. Just two goals separate Manchester City from the league leaders. Taylor indicated that the title race is in his own side’s hands and that they have just got to keep performing well.

He said “We’re in a position now to take control and we have six games. We don’t have to be dependent on anyone else.

“When you get good performances, it doesn’t guarantee a win but it gives you a good chance.”

Taylor’s side now have 10 Barclays Women’s Super League wins in a row and he believes that his players deserve lots of credit for what they’ve achieved so far.

He said “To be in this position where we are, I think the players deserve great credit. We were at the top of the league earlier in the season then within a couple of games, we were trailing by six points but we clawed that back amazingly well. The group deserves great credit for that.”

Manchester City are back in action on Saturday when they play host to Manchester United at The Etihad Stadium.
