Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that midfielder Ella Toone will miss England’s upcoming friendlies against the United States and Switzerland through injury.

England head coach Sarina Wiegman is set to name her squad for the upcoming international window later this morning, however, Manchester United midfielder Toone will be one notable absentee.

The 25-year-old is currently nursing a calf injury. The player missed her side’s fixture against Leicester City at the weekend while she is unexpected to return to fitness until at least early December.

Speaking about Toone’s fitness in a Manchester United press conference this morning, head coach Skinner said “Ella picked up an injury in training the day before the Leicester game. She took a calf injury in a small, bottled session. She will definitely miss these two games, she will miss the international window where we will keep assessing her and we will then see if she is back for the three-game block after that.

“She will definitely miss this block here and the international window recovering from the calf injury.”

Details of England boss Wiegman’s latest squad selection are expected to be released around 10.45am this morning. The Lionesses face the United States at Wembley on Saturday 30 November 2024 before taking on Switzerland at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on Tuesday 3 December 2024.
