Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that the focus will remain on playing attacking football when his side face Everton at The Gaughan Group Stadium on Sunday.

The Lilywhites have the worst defensive record in the Barclays Women’s Super League after being breached 21 times in just eight games.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Vilahamn said that keeping a clean sheet is important but the primary focus is on playing attacking football.

“If you look at how we prioritise, I want us to score a lot of goals then I want to have a clean sheet,” Vilahamn said. “We are going to look at how we can score many goals and win the game and have a really good defence.

“I’m not going into this game to try and have a clean sheet and then hopefully, score a goal, the mindset will be to play attacking football with a high press. With that, we will try and make sure that we can get a clean sheet.”

Opponents Everton have struggled to score goals this season but Vilahamn sees a side that are led by a good manager and that are well-drilled.

He said “Everton have the same manager as last season and I think he’s a really good manager with good tactics. I am also aware of their squad and the players that they have.

“I know that we need to be very sharp tactically in this game. If we get everything right, we know we have a good chance to win.”

Spurs defeated Aston Villa 1-0 in the Women’s League Cup last time out and Vilahamn wants his side to build on that result this weekend.

He said “First of all, it was great to have the clean sheet. We conceded a lot of goals before that, so it was really nice to see how we nailed the high press, the low defence in some parts of the game and Eleanor [Heeps] playing her first game was really nice to see. In the build-up, we were much braver, we created some really good chances. We scored one amazing goal but we still need to be sharper and finish more chances.

“Overall, it was a good step up from the other games and I think we can use that to take another step against Everton.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets will be available to purchase on the day at The Gaughan Group Stadium.
