London City Lionesses have completed the impressive signing of Japanese international midfielder Saki Kumagai from AS Roma.

The Pride announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

It has been reported that London City Lionesses have paid an undisclosed fee to secure the player’s services from AS Roma.

Kumagai is one of the most decorated players in the game having turned out for the likes of Lyon, Bayern Munich and AS Roma in her career to date. Throughout her career, Kumagai has won 10 league titles, spread across four different clubs, while she lifted the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy in five consecutive years during her time at Lyon. The midfielder’s personal accolades include her being named Asian Women’s Footballer of the Year back in 2019.

On the international stage, Kumagai has been capped by Japan on 154 occasions while she has scored three goals. The player won the FIFA Women’s World Cup with Nadeshiko in 2011 while she was a Silver Medalist at the Olympic Games in 2012.

Kumagai is one of the world’s greatest stars and while she is in the latter stages of her career, she will be hoping to make a big contribution towards London City Lionesses’ push for Barclays Women’s Super League football.
