Newcastle United have announced the signing of forward Emily Murphy.

The Magpies confirmed the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 21-year-old forward moves to Tyneside off the back of a spell playing her football in the United States college system with Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Murphy has spent the last three years combining playing football with her studies in America. She also turned out for the North Carolina Tar Heels in her time Stateside.

In her youth, Murphy was on the books of Barclays Women’s Super League giants Chelsea. She made five appearances for The Blues at senior level. The forward also enjoyed a productive loan spell with Birmingham City.

On the international stage, Murphy has represented England at various youth levels but she has since switched allegiances to the Republic of Ireland.

After sealing her move to Newcastle United, Murphy said “After returning from America, I had a few options but as soon as I was told Newcastle wanted to speak to me I was excited. I have heard a lot about how ambitious the club is, and when I spoke with Becky [Langley] I just felt that this was the right place for me.

“The club’s values match mine and the project is so exciting. Everyone here wants to play at the highest level and I said yes straightaway. I can’t wait to get started.”

Newcastle United completed their move for Murphy ahead of last night’s transfer deadline.
