Aston Villa sign Dutch international defender Wilms

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Dutch international defender Lynn Wilms.

The Villans announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 24-year-old joins Aston Villa of the back of a four-year spell with German Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. Wilms won one league title with The She-Wolves along with three domestic cups. She was also a UEFA Women’s Champions League runner-up with VfL Wolfsburg in 2022/2023.

Prior to her time in Germany, Wilms started out on her senior career with Dutch club FC Twente where she won two league titles.

On the international stage, Wilms has been capped by the Dutch national team on 54 occasions while she has scored one goal. The player is a member of the Dutch squad that are currently competing at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

After bringing Wilms to Aston Villa, the club’s Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers said “Lynn is a player with plenty of experience at the highest level.

“She has performed on the Champions League stage and we all hope she can help contribute to our own aspirations in qualifying for Europe in the years to come.”

Wilms is Aston Villa’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
