Liverpool sign FC Barcelona midfielder Szymczak on loan

Liverpool have completed the signing of FC Barcelona midfielder Emilia Szymczak on a season-long loan deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Reds this afternoon.

The 19-year-old midfielder joined Barcelona from Polish Ekstraliga club GKS Górnik Łęczna in 2023. Since making the move to the Spanish giants, Szymczak has largely been involved within Barcelona’s B Team set-up. She won the Primera Federación with Barcelona B in 2023/2024. The player has had some exposure to Barcelona’s first team environment.

On the international stage, Szymczak is a senior international for Poland. She has 14 international caps to her name to date. The midfielder featured for her country at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

After joining Liverpool, Szymczak said “It’s amazing to be here. This is a big club and I’m so happy to be a part of it.

“I just felt Liverpool has a bright future and I know the WSL and this league is so strong. I know I can develop more as a player here and the club can offer me the best.”

Szymczak is Liverpool’s second signing on Transfer Deadline Day. The Reds have also added Swedish striker Beata Olsson to their squad this afternoon.
