Sunderland have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Tara O’Hanlon on a season-long loan deal.
The Lady Black Cats announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this evening.
The 20-year-old joined Manchester City from SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division club Peamount United in January 2024. O’Hanlon had a frustrating start to life in England with the player having spent her first few months with Manchester City battling niggling injuries.
On the international stage, O’Hanlon has progressed through the Republic of Ireland youth ranks and she already has a couple of senior caps to her name.
The player needs a regular run of games to get up to speed in the professional club game and she will be hoping to make her mark on Wearside with Sunderland this season.
After joining Sunderland on loan, O’Hanlon said “I’m glad to be here. After my first conversation with Mel [Reay], I knew this was where I wanted to be.
“I think there is a good relationship between the Irish players here, and I know a few of the girls already. I’m excited to get started.”
O’Hanlon could make her Sunderland debut when the club travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in Barclays WSL2 on Friday evening.
