Everton boss Brian Sørensen was thrilled with his team’s performance as they recorded a 4-1 victory over local rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Debutant Ornella Vignola netted a hat-trick while Katja Snoeijs was also on target for The Toffees in the rout.

When speaking to the media after the match, Everton boss Sørensen said that he was delighted with how his side grew into the game.

“I’m really happy with the win, of course,” Sørensen said. “We were not at our levels in maybe the first 35 minutes, but then we were leading at half-time. It was six or seven debutants starting in the first game in the league, it’s a derby, it’s at Anfield, so I know that played into it. I think we connected four passes in the first 20 [minutes], but second half, we controlled, we dominated, we played into chances.”

Summer signing Vignola became the first Everton player since Dixie Dean in 1931 to score a hat-trick at Anfield and Sørensen was full of praise for the youngster.

He said “Three goals, I expected her to score that’s why I started her, she was superb. The way she faces off, goes at players and she takes finishing [well]. She just wants to perform. I think she’s so hungry in everything that she does. She’s also a great character, so let’s see how she acts in the next couple of games.”

With an opening day win on the board, Sørensen spoke about what he expects from his side moving forwards.

He said “I just need consistency from the players, but also from the team. All of the summer was about how we can build a team that has one high value; like young players that you can grow, so we build some value in our team, but also to just get some consistency.”

Everton are back in action on Sunday when they face Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.
