Manchester United have opted to recall midfielder Emma Watson from her loan spell at Crystal Palace ahead of schedule.

The Red Devils announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 19-year-old Scotland international was set to spend the entire season with the South Londoners but she has now returned to parent club Manchester United at the halfway point. Watson made eight appearances for Crystal Palace in all competitions while she scored two goals.

Watson joined Manchester United back in summer 2023 after leaving former club Rangers. Big things were expected from the youngster, however, her progress was initially impacted by an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. Since returning to fitness, Watson was briefly given some first team experience at Manchester United before furthering her development in loan spells with Everton and Crystal Palace.

With Watson now back at Manchester United, the next step in her development is not yet known. The player may integrate back into the first team squad or the club could explore another loan move further down the line.

Manchester United are still competing for four different trophies therefore head coach Marc Skinner will need plenty of squad depth in the second half of the season.
