Everton have appointed Scott Phelan as their new permanent head coach.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Toffees this afternoon.
Phelan took interim charge of Everton in early February following former boss Brian Sørensen’s sacking. The 38-year-old won four of his eight league games in charge, guiding Everton to an eighth-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
Phelan clearly impressed the Everton hierarchy and he has now been handed the job on a permanent basis.
After being appointed Everton head coach on a permanent basis, Phelan said “I am unbelievably proud to be given this role. My time at Everton has spanned a long time and to have the opportunity to lead our Women’s team as head coach is something I do not take for granted. I am excited and am looking forward to what’s ahead.
“I started at Everton at eight years of age at Bellefield, the old training ground. I stayed within the Academy, signed professional when I was 17, and then got released at 19.
“I continued to play until I was 24 and then got an opportunity to return as a coach in the Academy with the boys. I worked my way up through the age groups from 10 to 18.
“Now, I have got this opportunity to work with our Women’s team and it’s an amazing opportunity. We want to push forward and trying to get back to the place where we believe Everton Football Club should be, and that’s towards the top end of the table.”
Phil Jevons will support Phelan in his role while further backroom staff appointments will be made in due course.
