Ipswich Town have signed highly-rated Celtic full-back Emma Lawton on a three-year deal.

The Tractor Girls announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 24-year-old defender joins Ipswich Town on a free transfer after leaving Celtic earlier this summer.

Lawton spent two seasons with Celtic in which she made 71 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored 15 goals. The defender has also been on the books of Partick Thistle, Manchester City and Motherwell earlier in her career.

On the international stage, Lawton has been capped by Scotland on 12 occasions in which she has scored two goals.

After joining Ipswich Town, Lawton said “I wanted a new challenge, and having spoken to Sean [Burt] and David [Wright], it seems like there’s a really good project here.

“I would describe myself as an athletic and energetic defender who likes to make things happen.

“It felt like the right fit for me at this time in my career and I can’t wait to get started.”

Ipswich Town have now signed 11 players in the summer transfer window. Lawton joins several players from the SWPL in moving to the Sussex side in the current transfer window.
