Burnley have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland youth international defender Kiera Sena on a free transfer.

The Clarettes announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 19-year-old full-back joins Burnley after leaving Southampton earlier this summer. She has signed a two-year deal at Turf Moor.

Sena started out with SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division club Cork City. She made more than 50 appearances for the club at senior level before making the move to Barclays WSL2 with Southampton last summer. Sena made two appearances for The Saints in the second tier last season. She created the winning goal as Southampton recorded a 2-1 victory at Ipswich Town in March.

On the international stage, Sena has represented the Republic of Ireland up to and including Under-19 level.

After joining Burnley, Sena said “It feels very good. I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward to getting going.

“It [Southampton] was a massive experience, being my first professional contract. It didn’t go the way I planned, so I’m excited for a fresh start.

“The ambitions of Burnley, and the fact that they want to progress into the WSL, show that they are so invested into the women’s side of things.”

Further Burnley squad news will be announced in due course.
