Sunderland have completed the signing of American goalkeeper Noa Schumacher on a two-year deal.

The Lady Black Cats announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 26-year-old stopper joins Sunderland off the back of a two-year spell with Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) club Hibernian. Schumacher was a SWPL title-winner with The Hibees in 2024/2025. In her time with Hibs, Schumacher made 51 appearances in all competitions and recorded an impressive clean sheet tally of 24.

Prior to her spell north of the border, Schumacher spent time in the American college system with California Baptist University. She excelled in the college game and was named the Western Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. Schumacher will now be hoping to impress in Barclays WSL2 with Sunderland.

After signing on with Sunderland, Schumacher said “It feels awesome, I’m super-excited to get started.

“It’s really exciting to be backed by a club where the owners and everybody are pouring into the club, and everyone is pushing in the same direction.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the supporters here, and I’m looking forward to playing in front of them.”

Schumacher is Sunderland’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
