Liverpool forward Thestrup announces departure

Liverpool forward Amalie Thestrup has confirmed that she is leaving the club this summer.

The 26-year-old Danish international forward joins Becky Jane, Kirsty Linnett and Amy Rodgers in leaving the Merseyside club.

Thestrup has spent one season at Prenton Park in which she scored four goals in 17 FA Women’s Championship appearances. The player proved to be a real asset for The Reds on the road with three of her four strikes coming away from home.

The Dane took to Twitter earlier today to post a personal statement which confirmed her departure.

It is likely to be a case of all change in attack for Liverpool next season. With forwards Thestrup and Linnett leaving the club, combined with the anticipated departure of England international Rinsola Babajide, there will be a gaping hole left in that position. Attacking reinforcements are undoubtedly set to top new manager Matt Beard’s summer shopping list as he looks to assemble a forward line capable to leading the way at the top of the FA Women’s Championship table.

Liverpool failed to win promotion back to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League at the first attempt this season. They finished in third place, 11 points adrift of eventual champions Leicester City who collected 50 points from just 20 games.
