Dutch defender Kerkdijk signs new one-year deal at Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Danique Kerkdijk has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old Dutch international defender joined The Seagulls in summer 2019 and she has gone on to be a regular starter in the Albion side.

With manager Hope Powell putting down the foundations for next season, it has today been confirmed that defender Kerkdijk has agreed a new deal which will see the player stay on at The People’s Pension Stadium next season. Albion confirmed the news via an official club press release issued this morning.

Kerkdijk has made 33 appearances for Albion in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League since joining the club while she has scored one league goal. She helped The Seagulls record their highest-ever league finish this season with a strong end to the campaign.

Speaking to Albion’s official media team after signing her new deal, Kerkdijk said “I’m delighted to be part of the club next season. Last year was tough at times, especially for the girls like me from overseas who couldn’t see their family as much as we’d like but we have such a close squad and they helped us.

“We made real progress on the pitch and I’m looking forward to helping us get even better next season.”
