Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of winger Sophie Quirk from Reading according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.
The 19-year-old came through The Royals’ highly-regarded Regional Talent Club (RTC) but she has found first team playing opportunities difficult to come by with the Berkshire club.
Quirk finally got the opportunity to experience regular senior football last season when she was loaned to FA Women’s Championship club London Bees. The player made nine league appearances for The Bees, scoring in their 2-1 defeat at Lewes in March.
After securing her move to Charlton Athletic for the coming season, Quirk said “It’s a dream come true, when you’re younger it’s all you dream about, being a professional footballer, and you don’t really think it can happen until it actually does.”
Quirk becomes Charlton Athletic head coach Karen Hills’ second signing of the summer. The Addicks have also acquired the services of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Elisha Sulola on a permanent basis. With the club having moved to become a full-time operation over the summer, the Charlton Athletic squad is expected to be significantly bolstered further before the start of the season.
The Addicks have a long term ambition to play in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with new head coach Hills forming a partnership with assistant Riteesh Mishra to oversee the project.
