One game at a time for London City Lionesses says Phillips as they prepare for Liverpool

Melissa Phillips says that London City Lionesses will be taking things one game at a time as they prepare to launch a promotion bid in the FA Women’s Championship.

The Pride have invested heavily in their playing squad over the course of the summer and they finally get their season under-way against Liverpool at Prenton Park on Sunday.

Both sides are heavily fancied to be in the promotion mix come the business end of the season but London City Lionesses boss Phillips says that her side will be taking things game-by-game with the Dartford-based club aiming to remain grounded throughout.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the new season, Phillips said “What a way to start the season with Liverpool away. I am sure that they will have been one of the favourites last season and they will be again this season.

“Championships are won one game at a time so that is how we will approach it because every game will be as important as the next.

“It will be a great opportunity to showcase ourselves on the road and implement the identity that we have been working on in pre-season.”

Phillips went on to say that there has been a good vibe around the training pitch in recent weeks and everyone is really pushing hard for selection ahead of this weekend’s opener.

“We have got a really strong squad in terms of depth so it’ll always be a hard decision to select an XI to go out there for us;” Phillips added. “It has been extremely competitive from everyone in our pre-season matches and everyone has proven that they add value either when in the line-up or when coming off the bench.

“It will be incredibly competitive from everyone in our group going into the match.”

London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Championship fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday. Match highlights will be made available after full-time on the FA Player.
