Arsenal goalkeeper Stenson loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of goalkeeper Fran Stenson on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal according to reports on The Seagulls’ official website.

The 20-year-old was a notable absentee from Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League squad in midweek and it has today been confirmed that the player will be spending a period away from North London this season.

Stenson fills the void left by Norwegian goalkeeper Cecilie Fiskerstrand’s departure from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer. The youngster will compete alongside Megan Walsh for the club’s number one jersey this season.

After securing the youngster’s services, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Hope Powell said “We’re delighted to welcome Fran to the club. She has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper and she has come here to compete for a place with Megan Walsh.

“She is at the stage of her career when she needs game time to develop. She knows she will have to work hard to get that at Brighton, but she wants to learn and improve and we’re looking forward to working with her this season.”

Stenson came through the youth ranks at Birmingham City before moving to Manchester City in 2018. The keeper soon joined Arsenal where she has spent the last two years. Stenson has also spent two separate spells on loan with FA Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers.

The keeper is the fourth summer addition at Brighton & Hove Albion.
