Manchester United and Reading kick-off the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season when the pair meet at The Leigh Sports Village this evening.
The both teams won the away fixture last season but there will be an expectancy on the hosts to get the three points this evening in what is new Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner’s first match in charge.
The Red Devils have made five signings over the summer and four of those players are expected to make their debuts this evening, those being Hannah Blundell, Aoife Mannion, Vilde Bøe Risa and Martha Thomas. Sophie Baggaley is set to be named on the bench with Mary Earps retaining her position of first choice goalkeeper. Alessia Russo made her comeback from injury in a pre-season friendly last weekend and she is likely to be carefully managed.
Reading manager Kelly Chambers’ transfer business has largely seen her add further experience to what is a relatively small squad. The likes of Natasha Dowie, Gemma Evans, Faye Bryson and Chloe Peplow could all be set for debuts in the North West. It is unknown whether Deanne Rose and Justine Vanhaevermaet will start given the fact that they have only recently arrived in the UK.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Reading kicks-off at 7.45pm this evening and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and on Sky Sports Premier League. Fans can buy tickets to attend the match right up to kick-off with tickets being issued in digital format only.
