Chelsea have appointed former Bristol City manager Tanya Oxtoby as their new assistant coach according to reports on their official website.
The 39-year-old recently left Bristol City after spending three years with the club. Oxtoby had been on maternity leave after giving birth in spring.
With Oxtoby being without a club, it has today been confirmed that she will spend this season working with Emma Hayes at Chelsea. Oxtoby will now end her maternity to take up her new role at Kingsmeadow.
After being appointed Chelsea assistant coach, Oxtoby said “To be joining such an illustrious team of players and staff is a true honour.
“I always said it would take something special for me to end my maternity leave early, and when this opportunity arose, and after to speaking to Emma and Paul, it felt like the ideal move for me. I’m looking forward to working not only with world-class players, but the amazingly talented staff at the club and being able to contribute to further success.”
Chelsea is Oxtoby’s third assistant role. She has previously held similar positions at Australian W-League club Perth Glory and at Birmingham City.
Oxtoby will be in the dugout for the first time when Chelsea travel to Arsenal on Sunday.
