PREVIEW: Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion

Chelsea will be hoping to gain revenge on Brighton & Hove Albion for last season’s defeat when the two sides meet at Kingsmeadow on Saturday lunchtime.

The Blues were 33 games unbeaten in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season before an out of form Brighton & Hove Albion side won 2-1 at Kingsmeadow, that was arguably the most unexpected result of the entire 2020/2021 season.

Chelsea go into their latest fixture on the back of three consecutive wins in which The Blues have netted 14 goals. Manager Emma Hayes rotated her squad for the 4-0 midweek win at Birmingham City in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup and the likes of Magda Eriksson, Fran Kirby, Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder could all be in-line for recalls for this weekend’s fixture against Hope Powell’s Brighton & Hove Albion. Defender Maren Mjelde and attacker Lauren James will again be missing from the squad.

Brighton & Hove Albion were also in Vitality Women’s FA Cup action in midweek, beating second tier side Charlton Athletic 1-0 at The People’s Pension Stadium. Manager Powell is likely to hand recalls to Emma Koivisto and Victoria Williams after they started that match on the bench.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 11.30am on Saturday lunchtime and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.
