Chelsea forward Kerr signs two-year contract extension

Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has signed a new two-year contract extension with the South West Londoners until summer 2024.

The 28-year-old was set to be out of contract at Kingsmeadow next summer but she will now stay on with The Blues for two more years.

Chelsea informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news of Kerr’s contract extension via an official club press release this afternoon.

Speaking after signing her new contract, Kerr said “It’s really exciting. I’m really happy at the club. We’ve had good success, being at a club like Chelsea is an amazing opportunity.

“The time was just right, I feel really comfortable being here. I think the club gives me every opportunity to
succeed as a player.

“I can’t see myself going anywhere else in the world or leaving Europe, having what I have at Chelsea.

“The time was right, honestly, I didn’t feel like I wanted to rush into anything, just like signing here the first time, it just happened naturally.”

Kerr initially took time to bed into life in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but Chelsea soon reaped the rewards with the Australian international scoring 39 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. The player has forged a near-telepathic on-field relationship with teammate Fran Kirby with their blossoming goalscoring partnership having been labelled ‘Kerrby’ by some fans.

Kerr has won two Barclays FA Women’s Super League titles and two FA Women’s Continental League Cups in her Chelsea career to date, along with the FA Women’s Community Shield.
