Leicester City have announced the news that England youth head coach Lydia Bedford has agreed to become their new manager according to reports on The Foxes’ official website.
Bedford fills the void which was recently created following the departure of former Leicester City boss Jonathan Morgan and she will be assisted by well-respected coach Brent Hills.
Bedford will officially start work at Belvoir Drive on Monday and her contract will initially run until the end of the current season.
A tough assignment awaits Bedford at Leicester City. The club find themselves bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table and without a point following their promotion to the top tier in May. Her first league game in charge of The Foxes will be their huge Midlands derby clash with fellow strugglers Birmingham City at The King Power Stadium.
Speaking to Leicester City’s official media team following her appointment, Bedford said “Leicester City’s vision for women’s football and the extent of its ambition have been obvious during the last two seasons, so I’m unbelievably excited to have the chance to be part of that. Taking the step into a senior coaching role is something I’ve always wanted to do.
“The infrastructure of personnel and facilities that have been put in place since women’s football turned professional in Leicester tells you everything you need to know about where the Club wants to go. A lot of progress has been made to this point and we’ll be working together to make sure that progress continues.
“I can’t wait to get to work with the players, staff and everyone at the Club.”
Head of Women’s Football Development Emile Heskey will take charge of the team for this weekend’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture at Manchester United.
