Chelsea have this evening informed their supporters that those who plan to travel to Thursday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture at VfL Wolfsburg will no longer be permitted to attend the game.
The Blues take on the German club in their Group A showdown with Emma Hayes’ side needing a positive result to advance to the quarter-finals.
Some UK-based Chelsea fans are thought to have been planning to travel to Germany to support their team, however, the club have announced the news that the City of Wolfsburg have determined that fans from the UK will not be permitted to attend the game due to increased concerns over COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. Home supporters are still able to attend along with any Chelsea fans with German residency.
Chelsea go into their final group game top of their group after collecting 11 points from an available 15. Opponents VfL Wolfsburg are three points behind The Blues in third position while they have a worse goal difference than the Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions.
The fixture kicks-off at 8pm on Thursday evening with all of the action available to be streamed live on DAZN.
Due to the rise of Omicron cases, the City of Wolfsburg have confirmed that fans travelling from the UK are no longer permitted to attend the match. Local fans are still able to attend.
While we know this is disappointing news, we understand the decision taken at this time. pic.twitter.com/SfhonSggBe
