PREVIEW: Chelsea v Manchester United

‘The Road to Wimbledon’ continues on Wednesday evening when Chelsea host Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup semi-finals.

The Blues are the current holders of the trophy while semi-final opponents Manchester United are thriving under the guidance of Marc Skinner and are aiming to make their first appearance in a major domestic cup final.

Chelsea go into the match very short on numbers. Manager Emma Hayes confirmed in her pre-match press conference that she could have as little as 13 players available for selection for the tie. Magda Eriksson, Maren Mjelde, Melanie Leupolz and Beth England are out while Ji So-yun is still away on international duty. The Blues also have some non-COVID illness in the camp which could reduce squad numbers further. One positive is that Sam Kerr has returned from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 and could be involved.

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner will again be without Millie Turner and Lucy Staniforth through injury while new signing Jade Moore is not yet match fit. Forward Kirsty Hanson is back in training but Wednesday’s game may come too soon for the Scot.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester United kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening. Tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
