Arsenal have moved five points clear at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table with a 4-0 victory over Reading at the LV Bet Stadium in Boreham Wood this evening.
Vivianne Miedema, Katie McCabe, Leah Williamson and Stina Blackstenius got the goals for Jonas Eidevall’s side as they took another step forward in the title race.
Arsenal started strongly and they took the lead in the 22nd minute when Miedema fired a low effort across goal and into the far corner of the net.
Less than two minutes later, The Gunners were two goals to the good when Reading failed to clear the ball and it fell into the path of the fortunate McCabe who guided her effort into the roof of the net from just a few yards.
Eidevall’s side then established a three-goal lead when Williamson headed home in the centre of the box following a corner kick from the left. Caitlin Foord could have added a fourth Arsenal goal soon after but she was only able to curl her shot into the arms of visiting keeper Rhiannon Stewart.
The goals somewhat dried up in the second half as Reading came out a little more solid. Beth Mead went close for The Gunners but she thumped a shot off the frame of the visitors’ goal.
Arsenal would get their fourth and final goal 19 minutes from time when Miedema fed the ball to Blackstenius and she had the simple task of beating Stewart from 12 yards.
The result leaves Arsenal five points clear of second-placed Chelsea who now have two games in-hand.
