PREVIEW: Chelsea v Aston Villa

Chelsea will be hoping to continue to keep the pressure on Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal when they face Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

The Blues defeated West Ham United 4-1 last night as they closed the gap on The Gunners to five points. Emma Hayes’ side still have two games in-hand on Arsenal.

Chelsea go into their latest match against Aston Villa without captain Magda Eriksson who has COVID-19. Fran Kirby and Jessie Fleming have also had the virus and it is currently unknown whether those players will test negative before the game on Sunday. Pernille Harder picked up a knock against West Ham United last night but it may be nothing serious.

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward has confirmed that Jill Scott and Ramona Petzelberger will be assessed later today while there are a couple of other knocks in the squad. Meaghan Sergeant has stepped up her recovery from injury but she will be unavailable for this game.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Aston Villa kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday. As a result of sanctions imposed on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, only fans with season tickets or pre-purchased tickets are able to attend the match.
