Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that this evening’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Everton is a good opportunity for the club to move towards where they want to be.
The Cityzens are three points adrift of third-placed Manchester United but this evening’s game is Manchester City’s game in hand.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor highlighted the opportunity which this evening’s game provides his side.
“It’s a good opportunity,” Taylor said. Games in hand can come around pretty quick but it’s good that it’s a home tie for us, it is a good opportunity and we are in a good vein of form.
“It is important that we focus on the performance and hopefully, that takes care of the result. We are in really good shape and we are looking forward to it but we just need to maintain the high standards that we have set ourselves.”
Manchester City faced Everton in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup at The Academy Stadium on Sunday, winning the tie 4-0. The visitors were very defensive in that match and Taylor is unsure whether they will take a different approach in the latest meeting.
He said “Who knows (if Everton will change focus). If we hadn’t broke the deadlock with Lauren (Hemp) in the first half then they may have looked at it that they had been successful. The unpredictability of it is the exciting part for us, that’s the challenge and that’s why we play the game, if we were playing against the same system and the same opposition all of the time, where’s the excitement of that.
“I think it’s good. For us, it has come at the right time, it’s not early on in the season when we are a new team coming together and trying to work out various concepts against different teams. I think we have got a real good knowledge and understanding now, the players are adapting well, they really find the solutions well.”
Manchester City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 7pm this evening.
