Sunday’s FA Women’s Championship fixture between London City Lionesses and Lewes has been postponed due to COVID-19 cases in the visitors’ camp.
The two clubs were set to meet at Princes Park this weekend but Lewes have this evening confirmed the postponement of the game after positive COVID-19 cases were recorded in their squad.
London City Lionesses were hoping to bounce back from consecutive defeats against Lewes while The Rookettes were coming into this weekend in good form after taking four points from their last two matches. Both clubs will now need to wait another week before having the opportunity to continue their respective campaigns.
The postponement is the second in the elite game this weekend. Arsenal’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium was postponed this morning as a result of the visitors’ ongoing positive COVID-19 cases in their squad. Spurs have been battling a COVID-19 outbreak over the last 72 hours with the club’s midweek fixture against Chelsea having also been called off.
There are 10 fixtures still standing this weekend in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship. Some other clubs are known to be juggling COVID-19 issues and there could therefore be further postponements across the weekend.
